Social stratification.

When I was a student at the London School of Economics in the 1970’s a popular concept was that of - class and social stratification. Demarcating - which social class various groups were in was a constant preoccupation - not only of myself but also fellow students. Following Karl Marx ideas regarding the implicit potential conflict - between various classes like the - proletariat, bourgeoisie and ruling aristocracy. So I was interested to note in the press today that these underpinning concepts are redundant in the new world order. What sociologists are now considering are - politics increasing fragmented along: ethnic, religious affiliation, identity, sexual orientation, gender politics and the environment. These are much more complex systems to understand collectively and making - predictions about voting patterns more difficult to predict and therefore understand. Welcome to the new world of social stratification. .
