Perhaps one of his best John le Carre, spy stories - it was made into an engrossing series, way back in 1979. The cast was led by the man who made the role of George Smiley, his own - Alec Guinness (1914-2000). It managed to capture a real sense of the Cold War in the programme. There is a - mole in the Circus - as the spy agency is referred to. This is of course a reference to the political - hot potato of - how the secret service had several moles, known as The Cambridge Five. The spy genre is a popular form of literature and no one does it better than the late John le Carre, David Cornwall (1931-2020) in real life. So the search is on for Carla, as the top mole is referred to. What I particularly enjoy about the show is seeing London Town as it was back then. In addition the antiquated telephone system and the piles and piles of paper files. There is also the endless smoking and one particular actor always coughing. It manages to capture the era of a run down seedy life in the capital and across Europe. Highly recommended.
