In The New York Times on Monday, there was a disturbing article about US. Officials facing a torrent of threats over voting. On BBC One last night Panorama had a very worrying programme entitled Trump: A Second Chance. The cult of personality has pervaded the Republican Party and Trump, believes he is above the law. What is happening in America has distinct similarities to what happened in - Germany in the 1920’s when Hitler was just starting out. John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff has suggested in the last few days that “Trump is a Fascist”. A now infamous book entitled Project 2025 - sets out the right wing manifesto of a radical Trump administration. Moreover a recent decision by the Supreme Court, implies that a ‘president has complete immunity in his official role as president, but not in his unofficial role’. This ruling therefore makes the president above the law and not a subject of the law. He has carte blanche and can do whatever he wishes. This is bad for now, but what of the future?
