Understanding the American political cycle.

 For someone not brought up in America, it's impossible to get your head around the - American political cycle. It's seems to me that there is a permanent election going on. After the November presidential election, in only 2 years we have the mid - term in November 2026. Then 2 years later another presidential election, Ad - infinitum as a consequence nothing fundamentally can change. There is a spurious choice between the Democratic Party and Republican Party. However the institutions of government continues - whether that's  the State Department, the Department of Defence and Security Services. They are not accountable to the people. It's all according - to the  political thinker Eric Weinstein, a 'political charade'. Today who is - running the country as Joe Biden - is out to lunch and under a sun umbrella. The team at the White House are in charge and the system is on auto - pilot. What happens if at 3am Putin decided to attack America? Who is in charge of the neclear codes? Is the commander in chief - Joe - compos mentis enough? I very much doubt it. This is an extremely worrying scenario for all of us.
