The disgraced Huw Edwards, is in court on Monday for sentencing. Will he get a custodial punishment or something less severe? I never liked him as a journalist - when he was the front man of the BBC News. There was his - peacock and smug persona - that was too good to be true. Which ironically happen to be the case. The problem for the BBC - is that when the story broke last year, they were too preoccupied with - protecting the reputation of the institution - rather than acting surgically. They need from now to be more robust and confident and most important - transparent - which up until now they haven't been.
We live in a world where - truth and veracity are under attack and fake news is on the march. George Orwell, told us all about that in 1984 and the - Ministry of Truth. Being able to trust the news is the - sine qua non - of a functioning news organisation. The news is the foundation stone and reputation of the organisation - the litmus test. So unless the director general Tim Davey, can demonstrate this - beyond peradventure - there is an ongoing problem for the reputation of the BBC as an organisation.
