National Service.

 Apparently the prime minister Rishi Sunak, is planning to bring back National Service (NS) for 18 year olds - if he wins the general election. Good luck with that one Rishi. The rationale for this brave idea is to give us pride in our nation. Does NS give you that - or is it something less tangible? This does feel like an idea created out of desperation and on the - back of a fag packet. Can Labour and in particular Keir Starmer, break the mould and win this time? Defence is perceived as a weak spot for the party and Sunak is likely to press this sore point. The government had promised the defence budget will be 2.5% of GDP if they win? What will Labour do on this critical issue? Defence has always been their Achilles heel. We live in dangerous times.
