Today there is increasingly anxiety - that a golden period in thought and rationality is coming to it's end. The Enlightenment - from John Locke, Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes and the empirical, scientific methodology has had its day. The thin veneer of civilisation and democratic values appear doomed. The current crisis in Israel is a case in point, where many years of mutual conflict and mistrust has once again come to the surface. What is the cause? As Othello famously posed the question, in the play by Shakespeare. If we cannot discuss and think rationality - in these complex times, then the future is bleak indeed?
