Turkey marches towards autocracy.
The national referendum in Turkey on Sunday has provided a stimulus for president Erdogan to goose step towards more autocratic authoritarian rule. In a turn out of some 85% with the No vote at 48.59% and the Yes vote at 51.41%. Interestingly some countries in the EU with large Turkish populations voted Yes, including 63.07% in Germany. Why would you do that if living in a democratic place outside Turkey? I find this the most puzzling outcome of all. Are those who experience democracy so disillusioned by it, that they cannot recommend it to their countrymen and women back home?
