The ticking time bomb.

A headline in The Daily Telegraph, today warned of the  forthcoming demographic - time bomb. From ‘now on deaths will outnumber births’. In The Spectator magazine this week there was a similar dire warning by the feminist writer Louise Perry. What’s going on? To replace the population we need roughly 2.3 children per household each year in order to replace those - popping off at the end of life. Unless this happens, over time the number of people are insufficient to pay for all the - goods and services for a prosperous country. That is just what is now happening in the country and many other countries and in particular South Korea, where there is a serious crisis now. Women it - appears don’t want kids. There are multitude of reasons, cited as the cause. Some have suggested: that the cost of childcare and nursery placement is too expensive, others say it’s to do with feminism or there are not enough eligible men around, or higher education has made women more ambitious for their lives, some have argued that the  - swipe right phenomenon of the internet has made picking a partner more problematic as there are now so many choices available. Whatever the underlying reasons it’s - now a serious issue for many advanced countries, excluding Africa were there is - ample replacement of the older generation.
