Is Rachel Reeves, the chancellor about to - blow up her politic career?

Today is the famous celebration of the attempt by Guy Fawkes, to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5 November 1605. A group of renegade Catholics friends- decided the time to act was now. They didn’t like the direction of travel the new King James I of England and James VI of Scotland, was taking. He came to the throne after the death of Elizabeth I in 1603. They thought they had an understanding with the King, that he would be more pro-Catholic, but that wasn’t the case. So they took the law into their own hands - to try and blow him up. This would be regime change on a historic basis. But as we know - it didn’t happen and he and his mates we were all arrested and sentenced to death. Perhaps the largest and best known - Bonfire Night celebration is in the Sussex Town of Lewes - there is a massive torch light celebration of the event and fireworks - but it’s exclusively for local people as the town is small and streets are narrow. Enjoy.

In an attempt to - roll the pitch the chancellor, gave everyone the clearest hint she would be raising taxes at her budget on 26 November. Her central problem, was at the general election in July 2024 she gave an - explicit promise not to do so. She has therefore created a political situation that would be untenable. She and would lose all credibility - and the government would be in smithereens. Would she survive?
