One theatre stands out in the changing social landscape of the post war years and that place was - The Royal Court, in Sloan Square. The first production there was The Mulberry Bush by Angus Wilson 2 April 1956. And the famous - angry young man production of Look Back in Anger by John Osborne, opened 8 May 1956. And the show that relaunched Sir Lawrence Olivier career was of course The Entertainer again by John Osborne, in April 1957. I’ve been to the theatre many times and one show that stands out was a play about rampant corruption in the police force in Operation Bad Apple by G.F. Newman in February 1982. It was a theme close to my heart as I had been in The Metropolitan Police, from 1960-1963 and left because of the - systemic corruption and racism. So let’s raise a glass to the Royal Court Theatre and hope it continues for another 70 years.
