This weekend we will know the result of the leadership of the Labour Party. The current front runner is Lucy Powell, recently sacked by Starmer. The other candidate is Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary. Who would the prime minister prefer. Lyndon Johnson, the president of the United States, famously said “I’d rather have them inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent, pissing in”. Just so with this election. The two are both in the so call soft-left of the party and unlikely to - frighten the horse. On balance I think Starmer would prefer Phillipson, as she in the cabinet and unlikely to cause trouble. Powell, on the other hand, may feel less constrained as she must be angry - for being kicked out of the cabinet. My money is on Powell, but is it - a race worth winning?
