King Charles to meet the Pope on Thursday.

This unlikely statement, hasn’t been able to be made for almost 500 years. Since Henry VIII broke with Rome in 1534 an established the Church of England with him as its head and supreme leader and what followed was the Dissolution of the Monasteries, between 1536 and 1540. So 1,000 years of history was put to the sword. So the King and Queen will have a private audience and will pray together. What will be of the list for prayers in the Sistine chapel in the Vatican? In my opinion it’s about the King dealing with his mortality. We know he has prostate cancer and probably the prognosis it’s too optimistic. He can therefore anticipate only a few more years of life. Perhaps he wants to - get things sorted out before he dies? It’s therefore a very special occasion, both for him and his holiness Pope Leo XIV.
