Down at the National Gallery, they are celebrating a - jackpot win - as they’ve just been granted two outstanding sums of money of £150 million each. So what will they do with this extra amount in the - piggy bank? The director of the gallery, Gabrielle Finaldi - will announce this today at a press conference at the gallery. Good news as he is about to go - off on a sabbatical to study Medieval English art. There will now be an open international competition to design this important building. They hope to announce the winner in two years time and the new galleries open in the spring of the early 2030’s. These new galleries will be - north of the current building and go towards Leicester Square and adjacent to the National Portrait Gallery, on Charing Cross Road. So this particular part of the capital - will have the largest concentration of art anywhere in the country and perhaps Europe?
