Babies - no thank you.

We are all now familiar with the crisis across the developed world of - no more babies, apart from Sub-Saharan Africa. So in The Sunday Times today - there was a very interesting article about this modern day malady. A British academic at Kings College, London professor Evans - has an interesting hypothesis as the underlying cause of the problem. Professor Evans says - ‘we have forgotten how to socialise, with other people, especially of the opposite sex, we have lost the habit’. We increasingly spend too much time on our smartphones - as we grow up and live online too much. In her opinion for the past 15 years this is - the defining moment in our collective method of socialising. This phenomenon is true across all developed countries from - China to the US to Australia and Japan. There are no exceptions to this - general rule for all countries and cultures that have Smartphones. They have become so ubiquitous and moreover we have digital entertainment on line permanently - so there is no need to go out to the cinema, theatre, social clubs, football matches and socialise. In addition there is sex on line and in particular pornography - where too many young men get their sexual satisfaction and entertainment.

There are however some very religious faiths like Orthodox Jews, that have very large families and up to ten children. Also the Mormon religion has large families in America at Salt Lake City. But apart from these ultra religious groups, which are the exception to the general hypothesis - most people are not having babies if they are under 25.

Therefore how - interesting it would be if only Africa, was to be the sole continent, not to suffer this - modern day malady. We as Homo sapiens came out of that continent approximately 70,000 years ago and migrated north and then east and west. However unless we wake up from this torpor, we could end up years from now like the - Dodo and go extinct - apart from these ultra religious groups.
