A very special hotel.

 The old American Embassy in Grosvenor Square - is about to be re-opened as an extremely expensive upmarket hotel. Financed by a Chinese company - it open on the 1st of August - with a splendid reception. I once worked as a policeman outside the embassy in 1961/3 - when I was in the Metropolitan police. It was often seen as quite a prestigious posting and was always interesting. Grosvenor Square has seen many battles over the - Cuban invasion, the Vietnam War. And other sundry demonstrations by - generally speaking left-wing die hard students. I look forward to visiting the new hotel sometime in the next few months. It’s a grand and spectacular building with a bald eagle on the top - indicating the splendour of the embassy - which was originally opened in 1960.
