Is it possible at the general election in say 2029 - Nigel Farage, is standing in Downing Street as the new prime minister? There is increasing belief this scenario - thought out of the question a few years ago - is getting traction. Both the two main political parties are sceptical about the idea, but stranger things have happened. The Labour majority although substantial isn’t very deep. In many constituencies - the majority is in the hundreds not the thousands. A relatively small swing to Reform, could spell death to Labour. Similarly the Conservative Party under Kemi Badenoch, isn’t convincing. She was interviewed on the Today programme this morning and came over as - competent but not inspiring. The analogy she liked to draw was - if you want to open a restaurant in five years time - you don’t set out the menu now? The danger is Reform will open a - chain of restaurants in the meantime. The politics of this country are changing very fast and there is little time for - pleasant gastronomic navel-gazing. Time to - wake up and smell the coffee - before it’s too late.
