Our oldest foe is France - over many centuries, starting with the invasion of 1066 and William the Conqueror. Since then it’s been a - rollercoaster ride. There is a certain schadenfreude at the ongoing political crisis under president Macron. The big threat is from the right and Marine Le Pen and the issue of mass migration into the country. The culture of France is perceived to be under threat and the Christian heritage in particular from Islam. The new prime minister appointed this afternoon is the veteran politician Mr Bayrou. Can he cobble together a new government to replace the recent one. The same problems are there - how to balance the budget?
