Last chance saloon, according to Alan Milburn.

A previous health secretary, Alan Milburn, has said the ‘NHS is in the last chance saloon’. He thinks the current state of the service is far worse now than when he was in office from 1999-2003 when he was in charge, over 21 years ago. He will play a senior role in the Department of Health advising Wes Street. Recurrent underfunding by the coalition government from 2010 and afterwards has depleted the once excellent organisation. Fundamental changes are necessary, especially in high technology plant - like scanners and AI. Moreover specialist doctors and nurses and support services - including physiotherapist, occupational therapist, counsellors and psychotherapy services, art therapists etc. Unless these changes occur by the next election then it’s - good night Vienna - to the NHS. In 2012 at the London Olympics - we took particular pride in this national service, but that is an unfortunately - distant memory now.
