I have a local walk, that I particularly enjoy and discovered and developed during Covid. That's in a small village close to where I live in Kent. The place is Shoreham, and in the summer time a leisurely Chalk stream runs through the village. Apparently there are only about 200 Chalk streams in the world and a stagger 85% are found in southern and eastern England. No wonder the sensible and rational - Romans built a home along the river in Lullingstone - in order to have clean drinking and bathing water.
Well today - I went for my normal ramblings across the Kent countryside to my eventual destination - the delightful gastro pub - The Samuel Palmer. I had a gourmet sausage roll with delicious chutney, washed down with a thirst quenching Samuel Palmer, IPA. The food and chutney were made by the pub chef.
Palmer, was a renown landscape artist and lived in Shoreham for a few years. The Times former leading art critic Rachel Campbell - Johnston, wrote an excellent biography of his life - entitled: Mysterious Wisdom: The Life and Works of Samuel Palmer. I gave it to my daughter, as a present on her birthday. Megan, is the director of: www.the-line.org a large sculpture park in East London. Samuel Palmer, was born in London, in 1805 and died in 1881 in Redhill, Surrey.
