King coal is now dead.

Tonight the Ratcliffe - on - Sour power station will twitch off the lights for the last time. From about 1750 onwards coal has been the dynamo that powered the Industrial Revolution - first in Britain and then across the globe. My grandfather John Lewis, was an engineer in the South Wales pits in Landbradach near Caerphilly and my uncle George, was a miner there. Coal was first mined in the area way back in the 1890's and finally closed in 1961. We have now gone over to less polluting sources of energy - wind, solar, tidal and gas. We are the first G7 country to do so. So we were the - first in and now the first out. We should be proud of this milestone.
