There was an excellent programme last night on BBC One - about the life and work of the writer Hanif Kureishi - In My Own Words. Since his horrific accident on Boxing Day 2022 in Italy - he stood up and then collapsed and fell on his face. He was now paralysed and couldn't walk, shave him self or use his arms and legs. He said "you feel terribly vulnerable and could go to hospital at any moment". Since then with the help of his devoted wife and sons - he has managed to rearrange his life in England. The twin boys help him write each day at his home. As someone who gave us - My Beautiful Laundrette and The Buddha of Suburbia - he has left an indelible mark on our post WW2 multinethnic society.
