We in Blighty, might be out of step with our immediate foreign neighbour in France. We turn left probably on Thursday and France this weekend turned to the right. The National Rally party, led by Marine Le Pen - has had a major victory over her left wing opponents with 33/1% of the vote. The turn out nationally was 66.7% of those eligible to vote. The final contest is on Sunday. Unless the left agree a - positive strategy of working together to defeat National Rally - then France will have for the first time since the Vichy government in 1940-1944 - a far right wing administration. The touchstone issue underpinning the election has been mass immigration and in particular from Muslim countries. In addition there is increased fears about terrorist attacks, again from radical Muslim groups. So this is a toxic combination - the Macron gamble will have dramatically failed.
