The top news is that a number of current and former cabinet ministers are - leaving the sinking ship of state. They include Michael Gove, Theresa May, Greg Clark and Harriet Harman for Labour and many more. Some are leaving as they have been in parliament for some years. Others have concluded that if they are Conservatives they will probably lose their seat. Some may have thought - who wants to be in opposition for ten years? It must be very depressing to see so many friends and colleagues quitting politics. This end of term atmosphere at Westminster is referred to as - washing up. In other words, finishing off last minute Acts of Parliament, clearing offices, saying goodbye to parliament for the last time. The ghost ship of state is marooned and quiet on the bank of the Thames.
