Alan Bennett is 90 today.

It goes without saying that Alan Bennett, is a - national institution and loved by most of us. He was born in Leeds and went up to Exeter College, Oxford, after which he did his National Service. I first came across him in 1960 - in the comedy satire - Beyond the Fringe. His series Talking Heads on television in 1988 was a big success, where famous actors like Maggie Smith, would just talk to camera. His later play that I saw - A Question of Attribution, was about the double life of Sir Anthony Blunt, as a Soviet spy. He had the prestigious position as Surveyor of the Queens pictures for many. Another successful play was - The History Boys, at The National Theatre, which I saw with my children. Let's hope he continues with even more illustrious successes. Happy birthday Alan.
