History and what next?

On Netfix there is a brilliant series entitled - Turning Point and it considers the teleological question of - where we are now in international relationships, especially with Putin's Russia? It takes us from the time of post WW2 Europe to the present day in Ukraine. It's a catalogue of - near misses - in particular regarding the possibility of nuclear war. There have been - apart from the Cuban crisis of October 1992 - so very close calls. It makes you wonder, can we survive or will the world end with a terrible bang? It's more worrying as Trump, may be back in the White House from next January. I'm addition we observe that the American political thinker George Tennant, suggested that Russia could be 'contained ' this policy has been the underpinning of US foreign policy since 1945. As chairman Mao, famously said "we live in interesting times".
