Unless you follow history and in particular war history - the name of Major Mike Sandler, will not mean a lot. Nevertheless he had a heroic role in WW2 and the establishment of the SAS. Ben Macintyre, wrote a brilliant book about the exploits of the new fighting force in - SAS Rogue Heroes. Sandler, had an understanding of desert navigation in north Africa that served his troops and men exceptionally well. Some referred to this ability as "superhuman". In the later part of his life he was in a nursing home in Cambridgeshire, where his eyesight - that was so famous was fading fast. He was born in February 22, 1920 and died on 4 January 2024 at the grand age of 103. What an historic life.
