In The Times today there was a thoughtful and educational article by Lord Finklestein, about the current crisis in Israel. He poses the apposite question - where will we go? He addresses the fundamental issue of - where is there a Jewish homeland? Over many hundreds of years Jews have been homeless, until the foundation of the state of Israel in 1947. The United Nations reached the conclusion, that there should be a two state solution to the problem. The Jews accepted the idea, but the Palestinian Arabs didn't. So this conflict over land continues today, with terrible consequences for all in the region and beyond. I know all about this hatred between the Jews and Arabs - as I volunteered for the Six Day War in 1967 and was working in the Gaza Strip at the Erez Kibbutz for many months. So I was exposed to this malignancy.
