The polls have opened in France for the final stage of the presidential race. The wise money is on the 39 year old Macron. Le Pen it would appear is not going to take the top job. Over the last 24 hours the computer files of the Macron team have been hacked, releasing many emails and some so called Fakenews. The smoking gun points towards Russia and Putin for these latest dirty tricks. France has a poor history when it comes to Fascism and racism. We only have to think of the Petain Vichy government collaboration with Hitler, in rounding up Jews, homosexuals, gypsies and others and we all know what happened to them. This attitude pervaded France during WW2. So Le Pen is only the latest manifestation of this way of thinking.
Well the boy made it with roughly 66% to Le Pen on 34%. Now the hard work of getting France back into shape starts. Its good news for the EU project, but will he be able the heal the many divisions in French society? We will see in five years time.
