The end of king coal.

Since the Industrial Revolution in Britain we have been powered by coal. Today we witness the first continuous 24-hour period without the use of this fuel to get us on the move. We are now using more sustainable forms of power like gas, renewables, wind and nuclear. When we look back to the 1950's - when some days there was so much smog - that it was impossible to see more that a few feet in from of you. I can recall a guard walking in front of a bus with a red flag and torch. The government wants by 2025 to have all coal fired plants closed down. Regarding my own relationship with coal, my maternal grandfather in south Wales was an engineer in the pits. Most of my Welsh uncles were working for years in the dangerous confined space of the coal mines. Thankfully my mother got away to a more middle class upbringing with her aunt Alice and uncle Frederick in Swindon.
