Therese May's refusal to grant the SNP another referendum on the controversial issue of independence until some time in the future - is a possible hostage to fortune. Nicola Sturgeon is angry and incensed by this action. Next week the Scottish Parliament will vote about it. It seems to me the British constitution like Humpty Dumpty will not be put back together again. We may look back on this date as the beginning of the end of the United Kingdom. May has been caught out in an impossibly astute manoeuvre by Sturgeon. She is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.
