The long drought is over.
After nine years the drought is over for Arsenal Football Club. Nevertheless even during a drought there is always the faintest hope that one day it will eventually end. However the exhilarating and exciting Cup Final yesterday at Wembley started in the most extraordinary way with Hull scoring two goals within the first eight minutes. As an Arsenal fan I was 'dumb struck'. This was the worst possible start - how would we recover from this? The fans in the ground looked disconsolate and shaken by what had happened. They thought, as I did this was 'goodnight Vienna' or at least goodnight Arsene Wenger the manager. But thankfully this was not to be and a fantastic free-kick by Santi Cazorla made in 2-1. This liften the teams spirits and they went on to score another that put them on 2-2 at full time. Another nail biting 30 minutes was in store. I was exhausted with nerves and the fear of hopes again 'dashed'. I had been cursing the referee for the whole of the game - the ref always seems always to get the opprobrium. Who would be a referee? In a final piece of good fortune and pure skill Aaron Ramsey pulled the 'rabbit out of the hat' and scored a marvellous volley into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Jubilation! He said after the match "its great to have silverware". The manager Wenger said it was a "big relief". That was an understatement for him, the team and us the fans of Arsenal. Hull went home empty handed, but they had played a great game that was both exciting and entertaining. Thank god the drought is now over.
