Changing the guard in India.
The recent General Election in India has broken with tradition and kicked out the Indian Congress Party that has been ruled by the Gandhi dynasty for ages and ages. Their nepotism and elitism has come home to roost. This is a message to all ruling elites in any democracy that they cannot take for ever the electorate for granted. The Bullingdon Club boys like Cameron et al should take notice. All elites over time become divorced from their constituents - see Sir Winston Churchill, Mrs Thatcher or Tony Blair for historical comparisons. The outgoing Prime Minister Mr Singh has done a good job over the last ten years in bringing India into the 21st century, and making it a more open place to do business. However there is still a long way to go. Hopefully the new PM Mr Narendra Modi, the self made politician who does not come from a privileged background, can put more emphasis into changing India into becoming more open to trade from near a far. His large mandate from the people of India means he can govern without forming an unhappy coalition with difficult bedfellows. Mr Modi had a fulsome welcome in Delhi by his victories party workers of the BJP. Which included drummers and bagpipers.
