London for Expo 2025.
As a city of the world London has few peers or competitors, but there is one place San Francisco that thinks Expo 2025 will go there. They have a very strong case to argue, facing the Pacific, China and Australasia and all things west. I first went to San Fran in November 1963 on the day Kennedy was assassinated, there was bedlam in the city 'crying and gnashing of teeth'. So that place is seared into my memory. However being a Londoner I think we have a stronger case to put forward. The London Olympics in 2012 showed the world what a great city this is. Twinned with the City of London this is unbeatable combination. Check out their website for more information: www.futurelondon.org. In addition is the very organic cosmopolitan nature of London - its a polyglot community. I would love it to be here by then the city will be even grander with more skyscrapers in the City of London. The the beating heart is the river Thames referred to by Peter Ackroyd as a 'sacred river' in his book of the same name. Moreover it has an unparalleled history. There are still the Roman roads that are crisscrossing the town. The labyrinth of small medieval tracks that are almost impossible to negotiate. The Tower of London standing majestically on the banks of the Thames, there is also St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. London is a cultural hub with Tate Modern, the Globe Theatre, Tate Britain, the Houses of Parliament, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy. A collection other art galleries, museums like the British Museum and many theatres in the West End. Not forgetting all the green spaces like St James Park, Green Park, Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, Regent's Park, Hampstead Heath, Clissold Park, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Victoria Park and a host of other smaller green spaces. An improved tube system with the new cross rail connections. I rest my case.
