A storm in a tea cup or something more sinister?
Some bystanders may think this spat between Ed Miliband at the Daily Mail is a storm in a tea cup. The paper by attacking Miliband through his dead father is being disingenuous and cowardly. The editor Paul Dacre should defend his paper and not send in the hapless deputy to bat, as he did last night on Newsnight. The Daily Mail does not have a good record when it come to supporting extreme right wing politics. The late Lord Rothemere (1868-1940) was a notorious supported of Hitler and Fascism in the 1930's. I was taught by Ralph Miliband when a student at the LSE. I have nothing but praise for this charismatic teacher. His knowledge of political theory was unmatched. In my opinion this row have something of antisemitism about it. Of course the Daily Mail will deny this, and say its to do with legitimate interrogation of Ed Miliband's political history and current views. There fear is that Miliband will become the next prime minister and they are going on the - war path - to stop him. This will be a dirty war and get much dirtier as we approach the next election in June 2015. This is the opening salvos.
