Dogs or cats?

The world can be divided in those that love dogs and those that prefer cats. Which side are you on? My parents had Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and their last dog was a delightful Pekingese called Sim. So on balance I would say I was a dog person, although I had a girl friend who had a cat called - Patch that was fun to have around and good company. If I was to have a pet now I think I would go for a Lurcher or Whippet, in the past I had a preference for a Dalmatian. So last night I was gripped by the programme on BBC2 The Wonder of Dogs. They were all sorts - big, small, hairy, smooth, fat, thin etc. Homo-sapiens have been chums with dogs for about 15,000 years. Its thought we befriends wild wolfes who needed food, and over time domesticated them into becoming like an accessory. We have bred them to such a degree there are now many varieties. No wonder they are referred to as man's best friend.
