Angela Merkel.

Will Angela Merkel make across the line for the third time tomorrow in the German elections? Most political commentators thinks her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will do so, but it will be a close run race. Less abrasive than Mrs Thatcher, but nonetheless an effective leader with the EU largest and most dynamic economy. How has sh managed to do this despite the economic meltdown in the world and especially across the Euro-zone area? She is very good manager, and steals the clothes of her opponents that she feels will fit her objectives. This cross-dressing has made her a fearsome opponent. However in southern Europe countries like Greece, Spain and Portugal she is often referred to as Mrs Nein - or No. She has asked them to make social and economic changes that have made their economies so noncompetitive. Like her or loath her, she is one of the most important international political figures on the world stage today. A staggering 67% of votes say they are - satisfied with her. My money is on her winning another term in Berlin. Watch tonight on BBC2 The Making of Merkel for an understanding of this complex German politician at the centre of Europe and its future.
