Sir Ian Kennedy is right.

In my view Sir Ian Kennedy is right to suggest that MP'S have an increase in their basic salary to £74,000 - I would have gone further and argued for £100,000 per annum. He is chair of the Independent Standards Authority (Ipsa) and his department was sent up after the expenses scandal a few years ago. He is as the titled suggests, independent of parliament. Why ask him to do the job, if you ignore what he says? The MP's have got themselves to blame for this sorry saga. There is never a right time to give them a substantial pay increase, but today these sums are not exactly a princely wage. To get the very best people into parliament we need to pay a proper amount for the job, otherwise only the rich will be on the green benches. However as many of their constituents will not be on such wages, they will see this as MP's again lining their pockets. All the party leaders have condemned the proposal - this sorry saga continues.
