Outside the - cat flap.

Most cat owners wonder - what does my cat do when it disappears through the cat flap? Now we have some answers due to an interesting study by a chap from Bristol University. So in a delightful English village the detectives were at work night and day to find out what the moggies were up to. They selected 50 cats and fitted them with GPS collars, and off they went. What is fascinating about the cat is that it still has much of its old behaviour programme into it, so there is a natural instinct to hunt, police its territory, and fight if necessary. What will our domestic cats do, when out and about? They do patrol an area, but what the data showed up was that if there are two cats in one small area, they will share the patrolling, but not at the same time. They avoid each other. Another fact that came to light was, they will sometimes - pop into their neighbours house for a - top up snack. Thus reducing the need to catch animals like birds, mice etc. As the cat becomes more and more domesticated, it will over time have less inclination to be like its old self. They like living with us, and we like having them around, so each is changing the other. Watch this on BBC 2 in Horizon: The Secret Life of the Cat.
