Climate of fear.

Glenn Greenwald The Guardian journalist said in a Skye broadcast to the Socialism Conference 2013 in Chicago - that the US government is seeking to create a "climate of fear". The NSA in snooping on all of us is tantamount to saying that we are all potential terrorists. The police state that was South Africa is enjoying a visit from president Obama at the moment. Its therefore deeply ironic that he is today going to where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner on Robben Island for 18 years. The UK cannot escape from these accusations. For we are progressively become a police state. The further revelation that the NSA was snooping on EU offices is causing anger and consternation in many countries across the continent. The hypocrisy of both the US and UK governments about the touchstone concept - freedom of speech is truly breath taking. However the biggest fear of the police state - is the courage that people like Edward Snowden have shown will encourage others to follow. As Mandela has said in the past his favourite piece of Shakespeare is in Julius Caesar where he says - "cowards die many times before their deaths, the valiant never taste of death but once".
