Assisted dying.

Twelve Past Presidents of Medical Royal Colleges wrote in The Times yesterday in support of Lord Falconer's - Assisted Dying Bill. This would allow for the legislation of assisted dying for terminally ill mentally competent adults. This issue is moving up the political agenda. At one point it was on AOB - now its near the top - its only a matter of time and it will be. We are all living longer and as a consequence there are an increasing number people with serious debilitating illnesses - such as cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, dementia and obesity. Politicians and health policy advisors will eventually - wake up and smell the coffee - the enormous economic cost of treating this vast army of citizens will over time - bankrupt the county and NHS. So in my opinion within 10 years there will be a Bill on the statute book - as President Clinton said some time ago - "its the economy stupid".
