Saving lives in Ukraine.

The name Chris Parry, was celebrated last night on BBC Two in Hell Jumper. Shortly after the invasion by Russia on 24 February 2022 - he was on his way to volunteer and was one of many international young people. The war was bloody and unremitting, but he was fearless. He met and fell love with a beautiful Ukrainian young woman Olga. They spent a holiday together - in Switzerland in the summer of 2022 - where they could be normal. They returned to Ukraine and he goes to the East of the country - where it's increasingly dangerous. In December 2022 he is evacuating many elderly and infirm Ukrainians to safer places. But sooner or later his luck ran out and he was killed in January 2023 by the Wagner Mercenary Group. Initially he hadn't told his parents that he was In Ukraine, but eventually he did. They were very proud of him. The government of Ukraine recognised he bravery with an award. Olga went to visit the family in Cornwall and she was very warmly received.

In some says he reminded me of the time when I volunteered for the Six Day War in 1967 in Israel. An international group of volunteers, seeking to help the people of Israel. I was then only 24 and Chris Parry was 28.
