Immigration..

One issue towers above all others now in British politics and  that is the contentious issue of mass immigration. The by elections on Thursday has shaken the establishment to the core and both Labour and the Conservatives are now hemorrhaging support to UKip. They could now as Nigel Farage argues hold the balance of power. The Lib/Dems are out of the race and with be annihilated in May. The ghost of Enoch Powell is being resurrected to all those who remember his 'rivers of blood speech' of 20 April 1968 this will be a terrible omen. The European Union (EU) touchstone policy is the 'free movement' within in its boarders of any citizen to travel to whatever place country they so chose. This mass migration inevitably causes great anxiety in the host country. The less sclerotic economies that are more dynamic and not like Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal and France that are seeing so many immigrants to the UK. Moreover with mass migrations from many of the worlds political hot spots in the Middle East it was going to become a combustible combination. This is now the case in Sicily where I'm writing this blog. Clearly there must be a re-think of this EU policy otherwise there will be increasing disillusionment with the this myopic project. We cannot wait for a deux ex machina. .
