A split in the political psyche in Scotland.

As we know from history there is a deep split in the political religious psyche in Scotland. The divide is between the Rome Catholic and that of Calvinistic John Knox. The Yes campaign taps in to the nationalist xenophobic and bigoted small world philosophy. That's what in part account for the rubbishing of the No campaign and the tearing down of posters and attacks on individuals. To say No is arrogated to being disloyal and to in favour of the hierarchy and snobocracy in Cameron's posh cabinet. So No is seen as synonymous with betrayal and for the status quo. This fear has inhibited some not to put posters in their windows for fear of retaliation. There appears to be little evidence that No supports are resorting to similar tactics. Healing this split will not be easy, but the tone will be set by the leaders of each team whether Darling or Salmond. If Salmond doses lose I fear he will be splenetic and a 'bad loser' whereas Darling will be depressed.
I hope we have a strong No win that can put to bed this divisive issue for many generations to come. Having said that I fear there will be the constant noise of the drum beat for independence in the background for years to come.
The biggest danger as I see it is if Yes do win - there will have a rise of rabid nationalism in each part of the state, Wales, Norther Ireland and England - there will be more fractures. This was the precursor of WW1 100 years ago. Nationalism is a cover for xenophobia. These are worrying times for all nations not only those of these islands. How deeply tragic and ironic if we were the cause of the 'lights going out across Europe for a generation'.
