In a barn storming address to the good citizens of Mary Hill in Glasgow last night - Gordon Brown in a winning combination of Billy Graham and Dr David Lloyd-Jones was delivering a biblical address like a 'revival rally'. Browns' father would have be proud of the boy now a man, speaking with eloquence and conviction. The No campaign needed this shot in the arm as the message and messenger were all flagging for lack of spunk and passion. Brown had both in abundance. As a former chancellor and prime minister he was in an emotional straight jacket but now he was born again and released from this prison - he spoke from his brave heart. His role has been titanic and if the NO do win after the vote today, it will be in large part due to him.
Post No he will have a big role to play in resurrecting the moribund voting public south of the boarder. There will be a constitutional discussion across the political divide and Brown will be central to this conversation. The prime minster will have to make him an offer he cannot refuse for saving the Union. If on the other hand the Yes campaign are the winners there will be blood of the Downing Street carpet. As I have said before my money is on the No's but it will be a close run thing.
