The Transport Secretary Heidi Alexandra, had the temerity to come to the House of Commons - with an apology. HS2 was in trouble - she explained from the dispatch box. As if we didn’t know that already. I was by chance on the train with the chaotic prime minister Boris Johnson (remember him)? He was to announce in Birmingham in January 2019 the construction of HS2 - from London, Birmingham and then further north to Manchester and Leeds. The estimated cost back then was considered a large sum of money at £32.7 billion. Now that amount looks like - chicken feed to what it might now become. Some have suggested it could be a - eye watering £100 billion. We have a new chap in charge of the project and that is Mark Wild. Will he be any better than the previous people in charge? The national - white elephant has made the country a laughing stock across the world. Will it ever be finished? I begin to think it never will in my lifetime and I’m 82 and I was a young 76 - when I traveled with the prime minister to Birmingham.
