With the collapse of Syria, could the focus be on Iran? This theocratic regime is internally unstable and corrupt from the very top. Could Iran implode as the system is so fragile? Over recent months there has been intransigence by the regime, but the people have had enough of being told what to do and what to wear. These authoritarian and autocratic regimes cannot react and are permanently fearful of internal debate and democracy. They aren’t legitimate and the citizens - want a change in the status quo. However that is the one thing the regime won’t allow - the rigidity and sclerotic power imbalance will eventually be its undoing. Iran along with Russia backed Assad, now he has left could these internal divisions bring down Iran? Let’s hope so.
