Dementia.

On Channel 4 last night there was a poignant and distressing programme - Anna Richardson: Love, Loss and Dementia. According to the latest statistics, one third of people born today, will have dementia in later life. The government doesn't spend enough on research and development of medicines to treatment this crippling disease. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes are all more popular - when it comes to money. The tragedy of dementia is that by the time it's diagnosed - its being developing silently for many years. Families in the programme are shown struggling with a - loved one who has the illness. My aunt towards the end of her life developed the disease and she was a - shell of the robust, intelligent person - she once was. More needs to be done socially to help families cope. Unless radical action is taken, the NHS will drown - under this Tsunami of dementia.
