Can our pubs survive?

Pubs are often referred to as your - local parliament. There is an innate democracy about the pub. Each person waits in line by the bar to be served. It doesn't matter whether you are a prince or pauper - take your turn. Nevertheless this bastion of our national life is under serious threat. We may applaud Falstaff, but The Boar's  Head Tavern is on - life support. With the forthcoming Budget on Wednesday, many are hoping the chancellor Rachael Reeves, lends a - helping hand with a reduction in business rates. This sector needs desperate help or the hospitality business could suffer further losses. Unless something is urgently done - more pubs will go under. We have seen across the country many closing their doors for - last orders.

When I moved to this part of Kent - I decided to work in a local pub from July 2003 to the summer of 2009. I enjoyed the role behind the bar at The Bricklayers Arms in Chipstead. It was a great way to get to know my local people. It's a very popular watering hole for the natives.
