7 October 2023.

It's almost a year since the invasion of Israel by Hamas. It's impossible to put the - genie back in the bottle - too many atrocities and killings on both sides. Who is to blame? Where do we start? Was it the abject failure of the British government and the Balfour Declaration in 1917? Or was it several thousand years ago in the disputed territories of the Middle East? The Old Testament is a long history of Jews - being forced from one situation to another - in the great Exodus. Who is right and where - is the justice for thousands of Muslim - people in the region? I know a little about Israel - as I volunteered for the Six Day War in 1967 and worked on the Erez kibbutz - for a number of months. Now a much wider conflict is feared, with Iran and Lebanon being recently attacked. Nothing but - death and destruction all around.

An important related issue is - will the Middle East conflict have an impact on the US election in November? Some will think that Trump, who has been president will be more familiar with all the main actores. On the - other hand is Kamala Harris, with fresh ideas more receptive to changing the dysfunctional dynamics? It's easy to be pessimistic about the current conflict as it enters a second year.
